I have a 88 Savage, but all problems now come with turning the engine off.Almost every time engine dies with a strong metal sound, feels like crankshaft is turning backwards and hits starter clutch gears.Twice I changed starter gears - first big gear with the double idle gear No2, five months later- smaller idle gear No1and starter motor "tail".
I am afraid that starter mechanism cannot endure such an "unpolite" attitude and will brake again.I changed idle rpm to hihger - about 1200 rpm, but that slightly helped if helped at all- then came problem with shifting fron neutral to 1-st.geat - due to high idle rpm it shifts with a BIGGER noice - that I think will destroy gear box.The clutch cable is well adjusted. What to choose - starter or gearbox heav metalsound? Is there a solution to this problem?
P.S. There is a big change in starter gear for 2000 Savage - idle gear No1 is replaced with so called "LIMITER" Are these parts interchangeble?
Thanks for any commend,
Best wishes,
Miroslav
